This seems like a place that River would run away to, to feel safe.. As Isabelle says, she had the same condition as her but she didn't get diagnosed until as a adult, and as a result, she couldn't be taught to be 'normal.'

She must have suffered a lot of bad treatment in school, misunderstanding and teasing..
